Alex's Phoenix Bomber axchos@yahoo.com <-- NOT AOL NOW

The story: Now that you single-handedly beat the whole fleet of
bad guys in Patrick D.'s Phoenix, you have to find any escaping
ships that you missed. The ones you will fight in this game are
all boss ships that drop mines. They are flying away so the you
are chasing them and can run into the mines they drop. You only
fight one ship at a time, but they are bosses, so it is harder.

The point of the game is to kill the enemy ships and not die.

You start with 8 units of shields and you lose 1 for every mine
that you hit. When you lose your shields, 1 mine will kill you.

You also start with 80 shots worth of bullets, which do 1 point
of damage to the enemy. You also may get better weapons that do
more damage. When you run out of ammo, you go to the next worse
weapon with full ammo (80 shots). If you run out of bullets, the
worst weapon, you may use your shields to make a powerful blast
that does 5 damage each time and clears out all mines onscreen.
(it costs 1 unit of shields each time)

Time stops when you shoot, which makes the game faster and playable.
Except when you use a shield blast, you must hit the center of
the enemy ship to do any damage (on the H where mines come out).
The enemy ship will drop mines if it doesn't move, but there are
also leftover mines that come from ships up ahead (they're random).

When you kill an enemy ship, it explodes and leaves behind supplies.
The supplies are either a full shields recharge, current weapon ammo
resupply, or the next weapon ammmo. Then your score increases by the
previous ship's maximum hit points and the next ships hit points are
calculated. The neat thing is that it can adjust to how well you are
doing in the game. If you have low shields, low ammo or bad weapons,
the next ship's hit points will be less than before.

Weapons -

Bullets - 1 damage - little explosion
Bombs - 2 damage - full explosion
Torpedos - 3 damage - big explosion
Nukes - 4 damage - bigger explosion (OK OK, it's not like a nuke,
but I didn't know what else to call it)
Shields - 5 damage - full screen explosion

The screen looks like this -

       X + '/
       X +'
      / +
Shields +
